1. Common types and characteristics of mechanical wear
(1) Running in wear: the corresponding wear of machinery under normal load, speed and lubrication, which develops very slowly.
(2) Hard particle wear: the abrasive particles falling from the parts themselves and the hard particles entering from the outside cause mechanical cutting or grinding and damage the parts.

(4) Hot wear: in the process of friction, metal surface wear and internal matrix produce hot zone or high temperature, which makes parts have tempering softening, burning and wrinkling. It often occurs in high-speed and high-pressure sliding friction, and the damage of wear is more prominent, accompanied by the nature of accident wear.
(5) Corrosion wear: chemical corrosion causes wear, the surface of the part is eroded by acid, alkali, salt liquid or harmful gas, or the part surface is combined with oxygen to form hard and brittle metal oxide which is easy to fall off and cause part wear.

(6) Phase change wear: when the parts work at high temperature for a long time, the grain size of the metal structure on the surface of the part becomes larger, and the oxidation around the grain boundary produces a small gap, which makes the parts fragile and reduces the wear resistance, thus speeding up the wear of the parts.
(7) Hydrodynamic wear: the wear of the part surface caused by the impact of liquid velocity or particle velocity on the surface of the part.
Causes and measures of life shortening
(1) Deformation of basic parts: the deformation changes the relative position of each part, accelerates the wear of parts and shortens the service life of parts. Reasonable installation and adjustment can be adopted to prevent deformation.
(2) Parts balance failure: the unbalance of high-speed rotating parts accelerates the damage of parts and shortens the service life of parts under the action of centrifugal force. Take strict action balance test measures to prevent.
(3) No running in: the fitting surface of the replaced parts is not running in reasonably. As time goes on, the wear of the fitting surface of the parts will increase and the service life of the parts will be shortened. The preventive measure is to run in the accessories.

(4) Low hardness: the repaired parts are not properly selected, the surface hardness is not up to standard, or the heat treatment is unqualified. Preventive measures: select materials according to requirements and conduct reasonable heat treatment.


3. Causes of parts wear and preventive measures
(1) Normal wear and tear
a. Friction between parts: ensure the cleanness and lubrication of parts
b. Wear caused by hard particles: keep parts clean and cover exposed parts
c. Fatigue wear of parts under long-term alternating load: eliminate clearance, select suitable lubricating grease, reduce additional vibration and improve part accuracy.
d. Corrosion of chemical substances on parts: remove harmful chemicals and improve the corrosion resistance of parts
e. Change of metallographic structure or matching property on the surface of parts under high temperature conditions: try to improve working conditions, or use high temperature resistant and wear-resistant materials to make parts.
(2) Abnormal wear and tear
a. Repair or manufacturing quality does not meet the design requirements: strict quality inspection.
b. Violation of operating procedures: familiar with mechanical properties and operate carefully.
